Date/Time: Sunday, April 28 2019, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Location: Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, MD.
Description: An insanely busy month! I'm taking an afternoon away from Jazz. Instead, I'm so thrilled to participate again at the Rockville Science Day, as my artistic alter-ego, Organ Grinder Lola! For the past (how many?) years, I have been invited to demonstrate not just the beauty of music, but also the science of music-making, sound production, and data storage -- through my beautiful, hand-crafted street organ, Scharmanka. My mother, who's still having fun playing as an organ grinder back in my old hometown in Germany, she had gifted me her Drehorgel, with the obligation, that I bring this almost-forgotten folk art to the new country. -- Well at the Science Fair, and at Oktoberfests, we are a hit, and I've been bringing so much music to kids and grownups alike, for over ten years now. Come and join us at this free outdoors family fun event, where there are close to a hundred different science exhibits, hands-on projects, and stuff you can take home with you. Find out more about the year-round activities by the Rockville Science Center.

Date/Time: Wednesday, May 15 2019, 9:15 AM to 11:00 AM
Location: DCA National Airport.
Description: Today's Honor Flight veterans are coming in from Cincinnati, Ohio! For many, it's their first visit to our nation's capital, for some, it will be their last. The encounters we get to have, the handshakes, the conversations that our volunteers have with these veterans, as they're spending the morning with them, are so moving and an experience to cherish. We hold down the fort right as they're walking off the gangway, and we play upbeat Swing tunes, Jazz, robust Blues numbers, and some very romantic Ballads. Ooooh. Thank you, dear Blue Jazz comrades: Christiana sings, Halley Shoenberg is on sax, Howard Leikin on guitar, and Herb Nachmann on bass.
Date/Time: Wednesday, May 22 2019, 8:15 AM to 11:15 AM
Location: DCA National Airport.
Description: Double-header today at the Honor Flights! We welcome an early group of veterans flying in from Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and then we'll greet another planeload of veterans from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Wow, they've been on the plane for hours already, starting in the dead of night. So we can't complain too much, when our Blue Jazz group gets up before dawn, braves the early morning rush hour around the Beltway, and then schleps all our musical gear, instruments, amps, and whatnot through the TSA scanners. We're already special pets with the TSA workers, but they never cut us any slack, which is okay. But we do appreciate their big smiles and thumbs-up when we show up, early in the morning, just like them. Come volunteer, join us. Check it out on Facebook at Honor Flights DCA.

Another double-header for us: Honor Flight veterans coming in from Dayton, Ohio, and then another group from Evansville, Indiana. -- It really makes me want to take another cross-country trip and take in all these heartland cities and America, the Beautiful. Don't call it "flyover country," take some time and give it some loving consideration. We're showing our respect, playing our favorite tunes for these veterans: Christiana sings, Halley Shoenberg plays the sax, Howard Leikin sounds more lovely than ever on the guitar, and Herb Nachmann is the rock on the bass. Thank you all! And thank you, our Dear Sponsor, who makes these early-morning gigs possible.
